EPISODE #279: CRUSH YOUR CAREER IN 2024

THE HARD WORK IS WORTH IT!

Today, we're relaunching one of our favorite products, the Crush Your Career Challenge.

We originally made this as a video series, where we'd drip-feed you a new video and downloadable each day. But now we've turned it into an audio series, which is way more accessible.

There's a reason that we want to help you start the New Year off on the right foot. Career success is not accidental. Some people are prepared to do the work… others aren't, and they look for someone else to intervene to give them that leg up that they need.

But you don't want to hope for someone else to intervene to help you. You want to be able to do it on your own. Let’s face it, you might be able to schmooze your way into a board directorship, but you certainly can't perform effectively as an executive or business owner, unless you do the hard yards.

I'm always reminded of one of my favorite quotes from Frank Shorter, the gold medalist in the men's marathon at the 1972 Olympics in Munich. Shorter was well-known for his grueling training schedule, and his uncompromising adherence to it. When the mercury was 20 below, and it was snowing in sheets in the streets of New York, Shorter still didn't take a day off from his training regime.

When he was asked by journalists why he was so fanatical about his training, he said, "Because those are the days that the other guys stay inside and eat pies."

You may have heard me saying in the past, "If you do the easy things in life, life becomes hard. But if you do the hard things in life, life becomes easy."

So, yes. There is some work on the other side of this, but if you put in the hard yards, you're going to reap the rewards. And if you want true success and happiness, the pathway goes through the work.

IT STARTS WITH A PLAN!

I've tried to capture all my knowledge in this area, as simply as I could to put it into the Crush Your Career Challenge. I want it to be your roadmap to discovering these things for yourself. I can't do that for you. But it truly opens a world of possibility and clarity, when you're navigating a dark morass of uncertainty and doubt.

The concepts in the Crush Your Career Challenge are timeless. They don't change. And they're relevant to you, your life, and your career, no matter what your current circumstances are. They'll enable you to be more in control, more focused on the things that matter, and ultimately a hell of a lot happier. Here's how it works in a nutshell.

When you register, you get an email which will prompt you to subscribe to the Crush Your Career Challenge on your favorite podcast player. You can just consume each of the five lessons from there. Each lesson is short, sharp, and powerful, just like all our content.

WHAT’S IN THE CRUSH YOUR CAREER CHALLENGE?

The challenge starts by helping you to map your strengths. We think we know what our strengths are, but how would you really know? It's not just the things you're good at. We've got a great worksheet for you to use here to map your strengths.

We talk about visualization and why it's so critical to tap into your deepest psyche to set the right long-term outcomes for your life. Most of us are highly rational leaders, and our instinct is to make this long-term planning process an intellectual exercise, as if it were just goal-setting. But when this is done really well, it's not a purely intellectual process. It's an exercise of creativity and imagination.

I talk about how to create a corporate strategy for your life. The worksheet for this one is really useful, and it's something I've been working on continuously for a dozen years or more.

I then look at how to get a little more granular and work out what to focus on over the next 12 months. How far do you think you can go in 2024? I give you access to our three-question personalized podcast playlist quiz. This will build a curated list of podcast episodes to help you to specifically address your leadership development gaps. So, I really encourage you to take 60 seconds to work your way through a couple of simple questions—it may give you some much needed clarity.

In Crush Your Career, I also cover how to create professional habits that actually stick. I get really personal here about my habits and routines, and give you access to my daily habits template.

In the final lesson, I talk about how to hold yourself accountable, and actually execute on your plan. Of course, this is the big difference between this challenge and making New Year's resolutions.

There's absolutely no reason for you not to join the Crush Your Career Challenge. It's completely free, and I don't really talk about this stuff anywhere else. So, get started today!
